This first time ever DVD includes the definitive visual collection of Paul McCartney's amazing career featuring solo music videos, career-spanning live performances, personal commentary by Paul McCartney and exclusive footage that tracks his incredible musical journey as never before.

Spanning four decades, 'THE McCARTNEY YEARS' is a three volume DVD collection, featuring some of the world's best-loved music that has become the soundtrack to all our lives.

VOLUME ONE and VOLUME TWO contain the definitive collection of McCartney music videos. Starting in the 1970s with Paul McCartney's first solo single "Maybe I'm Amazed," the DVD includes the Wings promo video for "Band On The Run" as well as hits from the 1980s such as "Say Say Say," and the 1990s with "The World Tonight." It was announced today that there would be a star put on the Hollywood Walk Of Fame for George Harrison. Recipients are those that meet the stringent requirements of longevity and accomplishment in their field along with their philanthropic endeavours.

He will be joining fellow Beatle John Lennon as well as The Beatles as a whole. Although it has not been stated where his star will be placed we do know it will be on the infamous strip in downtown LA. Those fortunate to be out in Hollywood at the moment can see the Lennon star at 1750 Vine Street and The Beatles' star at 7080 Hollywood Blvd.

In the week that the long-awaited re-issue of The Traveling Wilburys Volumes 1 and 3 went on sale, Genesis Publications is pleased to announce a long overdue limited edition book on the world's greatest supergroup.

Expected for publication in Autumn 2007, the limited edition Traveling Wilburys book will present a trove of unseen photos and memorabilia from the Harrison estate archives. These will sit alongside classic photos of the band with text drawn from interviews given by the various Wilburys all over the world.

Genesis' books are always special, but in dealing with a collaboration as this, subscribers can expect all the stops to be pulled for a spectacular box set.

Nearly twenty years after the creation of the band, and over a decade since the music was last available to fans, the music of The Traveling Wilburys will be reissued on June 12, 2007.

The first single from Paul McCartney’s upcoming album Memory Almost Full will be released to radio on Friday (April 20th). The news of the single, called “Ever Present Past,” was posted on the chat board for studio technician Steve Hoffman’s website. It was on Hoffman’s site that the tracklisting and description of the upcoming album was first leaked.

The track was described on the website stevehoffman.tv as being, “Musically quirky — McCartney II (album) fans will love this one — hooky and clever with great lyrics, addictive robotic rhythm, nifty distorted guitar riffs and terrific double-tracked vocals. Fully realized top-drawer ‘Macca Pop’ in every respect, (with the) opening line: ‘I’ve got too much on my plate — I’ve got no time to be a decent lover.’ A+”

There’s been no official release date set for the single of “Ever Present Past,” but a video reportedly was shot for the album’s lead-off track, “Dancing Tonight,” starring Natalie Portman and The Office star Mackenzie Crook. Memory Almost Full will be released on June 5th.

Steve Hoffman is a well respected album mastering engineer, who is responsible for conforming digital sound and analog tape into either a vinyl LP or compact disc.

Ringo Starr’s longtime producer Mark Hudson first worked with McCartney in 1997. He says that McCartney has more than earned the right to be as experimental as he wants to be: “There’s a weird thing about getting older and being relevant. And sometimes we try to be, ‘Oh, we better sound like Coldplay or Radiohead, ’cause that’s what’s happening now.’ And I think that when it come to the Beatles, they have nothing else to prove other than being what they wanna be. And if they wanna stretch out and try something new, they could do a polka album — ’cause they paid their dues and done their stuff.”

Paul McCartney's new album, titled Memory Almost Full, will be released on June 5th. The album, which is being produced by David Kahne, who helmed McCartney's 2001 Driving Rain set, follows the framework of most of McCartney's work over the past 25 years, including full band tracks mixed with songs featuring McCartney on all instruments.

Memory Almost Full features a "15-minute Abbey Road-style musical suite," and will be Macca's first for the Starbucks/Concord Music Group's offshoot label Hear Music.

The new set is McCartney's 21st mainstream solo studio album, and his followup to 2005's Grammy-nominated Chaos And Creation In The Backyard.

To start is around 15 minutes of footage shot on the set of the Buck Owens collaboration with Ringo Starr of a remake of "Act Naturally". Also present on the set is Ringo's daughter.

Then there's a few McCartney & Wings promos taken from the MTV vault.

Next up is a clip of George posing for photos with Dave Edmunds and Jeff Lynne backstage at the Prince's Trust concert. Olivia and Dhanni are also present.

Up next is "Ou Est Le Soleil" from the MTV vault, with MTV logo and time code.

From a different tape are two "Milk & Honey" promos and three "Tug Of War" promos from the record company tapes.

To fill this out is a bizarre jam session from a Dick Clark special (at least I was told it was Dick Clark special...). Paul McCartney has christened his upcoming studio album 'Memory Almost Full'.

The album, his first since 'Chaos and Creation In The Backyard' was produced by David Kahne (The Strokes).

McCartney is investigating new business models to promote the album. For starters, it will be initially released through Starbucks in the US and generally through Concord Music and distributed through Universal.

The album is said to reflect his Beatles and Wings period and will include a 15 minute suite, similar in style to side 2 of 'Abbey Road'.

'Memory Almost Full' will be released on June 5th.

Neil Aspinall quits as Apple Records CEO

Apple Corps., guardian of the Beatles’ commercial interests, said Tuesday its chief executive, a longtime friend of the Fab Four, has quit.

Neil Aspinall, a school friend of Sir Paul McCartney and George Harrison, was the band’s first road manager and would drive them between gigs in his van. He later became their personal assistant and in 1968 was given a management role at Apple Records, the band’s own record label.

Aspinall, now 64, was executive producer on the top-selling “Beatles Anthology” album and was behind other successes, including the “Beatles One” album.

The company said in a statement that Jeff Jones, a former executive vice-president at Sony BMG, has been appointed as Aspinall’s replacement. There was no explanation for why Aspinall decided to quit.

“This is astonishing news,” said former Apple press officer Geoff Baker. “Neil was the fifth Beatle and the architect of all the Beatles’ success over the past 15 or 20 years. I can’t see how the Beatles’ legacy will be looked after as well without him, and I’m amazed that Paul and Ringo are letting this happen.”

The Apple statement said Aspinall “had been with John, Paul, George and Ringo for a spectacular 40 plus years, during which he played an indispensable role for the four. He was there since the inception of the band in Liverpool and has meant so much to the Beatles’ family for all these years, and still does.

Rhino Entertainment announced the project today and will distribute the package from the Wilbury Records label.

The previously released albums Traveling Wilburys Volume 1 and Traveling Wilburys Volume 3 feature inarguably some of music’s greatest singer-songwriters—George Harrison, Jeff Lynne, Roy Orbison, Tom Petty and Bob Dylan—as the iconic band The Traveling Wilburys. Both CDs will be combined into one release, The Traveling Wilburys Collection, and will feature bonus tracks of rare and newly mixed previously unreleased music along with a bonus DVD featuring a 24-minute documentary showing unseen footage of the Wilburys and their five video clips.

The Traveling Wilburys collectible packages will be available in four configurations. Each configuration is a remarkable commemoration of this unique group.

Standard Package – Features 2 CDs (Volumes 1 and 3) with bonus tracks, bonus DVD of content and a 16-page collectible book.
Deluxe Edition Set – Linen-bound deluxe edition features 2 CDs (Volumes 1 and 3) with bonus tracks, bonus DVD, and a 40-page collectible book with photos, original liner notes, new liner notes and a uniquely numbered certificate of authenticity.
Vinyl Edition – Features 2 vinyl releases of Volumes 1 and 3 with an additional 12-inch featuring bonus tracks, a collectible album-sized book, plus additional postcards/posters.
Digital Edition Bundle – Features downloadable editions of both CDs (Volumes 1 and 3) with bonus tracks, video content and an interactive booklet.

The Traveling Wilburys release marks the first time in ten years the product has been issued. Marking the occasion, Rhino Entertainment President Scott Pascucci commented, “We’re honored to be involved with making the music of this extraordinary group available again.”

In trying to explain how the Wilburys originally came together, George Harrison once said, “The thing about the Wilburys for me is—if we’d tried to plan it, or if anybody had said, let’s form this band and get these people in it—it would never happen, it’s impossible. It happened completely, just by magic, just by circumstance. Maybe there was a full moon that night or something like that. It was quite a magical little thing really.”

The Traveling Wilburys BACKGROUND

The Traveling Wilburys was not a carefully planned band, not formed from deep premeditation. Rather, the band was created in a casual blending of genuine friends one ordinary afternoon, which turned out to be anything but ordinary.

George Harrison needed a B-side song to accompany a European single release from his widely regarded Cloud Nine album. While in Los Angeles, George approached Jeff Lynne for help with the B-side, since he had co-produced the album. It happened that Jeff was working with Roy Orbison on the upcoming Mystery Girl album. Roy readily agreed to lend a hand in the musical effort. As fate would luckily dictate, George’s guitar was at Tom Petty’s house, and he too offered to join in and make some music. When the group showed up to record, Dylan also lent a hand to help complete the half-finished song George had written. George has often been quoted as saying, “And so everybody was there and I thought, I’m not gonna just sing it myself, I’ve got Roy Orbison standing there. I’m gonna write a bit for Roy to sing. And then, as it progressed, then I started doing the vocals and I just thought I might as well push it a bit and get Tom and Bob to sing the bridge.” The final result was a song called “Handle With Care.” George later said, “I liked the song and the way that it turned out with all these people on it so much that I just carried it around in my pocket for ages thinking, Well what can I do with this thing? And the only thing to do I could think of was do another nine. Make an album.”

The album they created was called the Traveling Wilburys Volume 1—a playful nod to the reality that subsequent volumes were unlikely. Volume 1 was released in October 1988 preceded by the single “Handle With Care.” The album achieved wide critical acclaim, and most critics agreed that the music was so extraordinary because of the modest ambitions of the band, which translated to a fresh and relaxing sound. Rolling Stone Magazine instantly called it one of the Top 100 Albums of all time. The album also saw commercial success; it reached #3 on the Album charts, garnered double-platinum status and earned the group a Grammy® for Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group.

In 1990, following the unexpected death of Roy Orbison in December 1988, the remaining members reconvened to record Traveling Wilburys Volume 3, dedicating the album to Lefty (Roy) Wilbury. With Harrison and Lynne producing again, both “She’s My Baby” and “Wilbury Twist” became radio hits as the album reached #11 in the U.S. and achieved Platinum success.

After being out of print for more than a decade, the two studio albums from all-star band the Traveling Wilburys will return to the marketplace in a variety of formats June 12 via Wilbury Records/Rhino, Billboard.com has learned.

“Traveling Wilburys Volume 1″ and “Traveling Wilburys Volume 3″ will be available together in one package with bonus tracks and a DVD of rare footage, as a deluxe linen-bound edition, a vinyl set and a digital bundle. The DVD boasts a 24-minute documentary and five music videos.

The Wilburys formed in 1988 after Bob Dylan, George Harrison, Tom Petty, Jeff Lynne and Roy Orbison assembled at a California studio to record a B-side for the Harrison single “This Is Love.”

The resulting song, “Handle With Care,” was instead released under the Wilburys name, with the artists posing as a band of brothers. It went on to reach No. 45 on the Billboard Hot 100, while the “Volume 1″ album hit No. 3 on The Billboard 200. The reissued version of the album includes the previously unreleased tracks “Maxine” and “Like a Ship.”

A MAJOR new film revealing shocking details about Beatles legend John Lennon has been pulled after his widow Yoko Ono withdrew her support.
The documentary features previously unseen home video footage and controversial interviews.
Lennon’s first wife Cynthia, 67, told filmmakers how drugs and his relationship with Yoko tore their marriage apart.
And the rocker’s psychiatrist, brought in when his drug use spiralled out of control, described his possessive love for Yoko.
Yoko is listed as Executive Consultant on the credits for Working Class Hero by Double Jab Productions, which was due to be shown on BBC TV.

A TV source said: “The film had been several months in the making but at the last minute Yoko withdrew support.”
Double Jab, whose film is narrated by actor Gary Oldman, refused to comment last night.
EMI claimed the film was stopped because it was not finished in time to coincide with a planned album release.
Lennon was shot dead by crazed fan Mark Chapman in 1980. He was 40.

Happy Birthday George

Sunday (February 25th) would have been George Harrison’s 64th birthday. Harrison, the first of the Beatles to embrace Eastern philosophies and culture, will also be remembered for his humanitarian efforts, such as his 1971 Concert For Bangladesh for famine relief. Harrison died of cancer in 2001 at the age of 58.

Earlier this year, George’s wife Olivia issued a deluxe remastered version of his 1973 Number One album Living In The Material World, and she is presently working on future reissues over the next few years.

Olivia told us that George learned to balance his life through spirituality: “You know, he was a wild guy too. He was spiritual and he was living in the material world too. And whether he was bad or good or crabby or happy — whatever he was, he always tried to do it with a consciousness that would keep him safe.”

According to Olivia, the next Harrison reissues will consist of the two Traveling Wilburys albums, which have been out of print for several years. The two albums, 1988’s Vol. 1 and 1990’s Vol. 3, will feature previously unreleased tracks and home footage from the original sessions with Harrison, Bob Dylan, Tom Petty, Jeff Lynne, and the late Roy Orbison.

On Saturday (February 24th), Joshua Greene, the author of Here Comes The Sun: The Spiritual And Musical Journey Of George Harrison, will present a multi-media event celebrating Harrison’s life, art and spirituality at Jivamukti Yoga Center in New York City. The event will also feature music by members of the Alan Parsons Project. Greene will repeat the lecture the next day (February 25th) at ABC Carpet, also in Manhattan.

Greene recorded with Harrison in 1970 while a part of the Krishna sect Radha Krishna Temple, and recalled to us how practical Harrison was in the recording studio: “We came in, he said hello to his friends, slapped a few old buddies on the back. Then he started laughing and yukking it up about people’s reactions to a rock group with shaved heads — because he was putting out these albums of Sanskrit mantras. Then he looked at his watch and said ‘You know, we better get started, this studio is costing us 40 pounds an hour.’ That was impressive. He might’ve been a Beatle, he might’ve been one of the richest, most successful guys around — but he was very practical.”

The Beatles’ decade began in Liverpool in July 1957 when 16 year old John Lennon and 15 year old Paul McCartney met. This chance encounter produced one of the most important musical partnerships of the 20th Century. They listened to American artists and hung out in the Jacaranda coffee bar. They were part of a new breed of “teenagers” who benefited from their parents increasing affluence. Fashion was changing too, and Mary Quant designed youthful and colourful dresses. In America, youth was winning too, and Kennedy was elected President. The Beatles went to Hamburg in 1960 and it was there they discovered freedom, sexual freedom.

It was during this time that the Cuba Missile Crisis posed a great threat to world peace and for a while the world waited to see if peace would be shattered. Working class writers and actors started to emerge along with the Beatles. Everything was changing. Music, consumer goods, fashion – the sixties generation really did seem to have it all.

Heather Mills Planning Cartoon To Mock Paul McCartney

Heather Mills wants to create a cartoon mocking Sir Paul McCartney and his family, according to reports British newspaper the Sunday Mirror claims Mills is planning the animation - dubbed The McFartneys - to be a cross between the Simpsons and South Park.

It is claimed the former Beatle would be portrayed as a flatulent and miserly cannabis-smoker and his daughter Stella as a control-freak with a grudge against Heather - while Heather herself is made out to be a homemaker struggling to juggle family life with her career.
The Mirror claims Mills plans to slightly alter names so McCartneys are still are easily recognisable. She has even set up a production company, Raspberry Fields - a reference to Beatles song Strawberry Fields - and has registered variations of “McFartneys” on the world wide web.

A source tells the newspaper, “This shows the lengths Heather will go to in her attempts to blacken Paul’s name.

“She wants it to be a cross between The Simpsons and South Park and reckons it will get cult status. She’ll clearly be sadly mistaken. “She’s saying the series will expose everything that has gone on and goes on in the McCartney family, all under the guise of the cartoon characters. But most of it has been dreamed up and cast from her own skewed imagination.

“She has been desperately trying to keep the idea secret while she hunts for the right person to bring the characters to life. She has spoken to Sex And The City creator Darren Star and Hollywood director Dennis Erdman about which networks to approach and who may be interested in the series.

“Her back-up, if no one will take it, is to produce it for the internet, because she knows that even if the networks are too afraid to go against Paul, people will tune into it.”

The Beatles Analog to Digital

The Fab Four’s catalog long ago went the way of the 1 and the 0, but nothing could be less digital than the way the Beatles’ music was recorded.

Today, effects like delay are easily achieved with off-the-shelf equipment costing a few hundred dollars at most. At the legendary Abbey Road studio, where many of these effects were pioneered, armies of technicians used enormous rooms to literally bounce the sound off walls.

Such analog feats make for a fascinating and timely tale in the hands of Kevin Ryan and Brian Kehew, whose deeply researched and timely self-published book Recording the Beatles, shows with painstaking clarity how recording engineers not only captured the band on tape, but augmented its musical palette in ways still emulated around the world. The book, first published in September by Curvebender Publishing, was an instant hit among Beatles fans and music geeks and has just gone into its second printing after the initial imprint of 3,000 copies sold out.

Weighing in at 540 pages, this exhaustive and authoritative retrospective of The Beatles’ recording methods couldn’t be timelier. The band’s label, Apple Corps., is reportedly on the verge of licensing the Beatles catalog to online music stores for the first time, which could mark the second remastering of the Beatles catalog for a digital format since it happened for the CD in 1987.

The authors of the book (both of whom have recorded music professionally) interviewed the engineers who were there and documented their equipment. They pored over studio logs to piece together what the engineers used, how they used it and in which songs equipment appears, so you can hear for yourself.

The result is a sometimes overwhelming look at everything that went into Recording The Beatles — or at least as much as is possible to document in 10 years of research and writing.

The hardcover book, which is large enough to fit into the life-sized replica of an EMI tape case that comes with it, is bursting with photos and descriptions of the equipment, studios and people who helped evolve the Beatles’ sound. Considering the weight of their legacy, it’s hard to approach the Beatles as a book subject without falling prey to repetition or abstraction, but its concrete, well-researched approach brings you close to its subject matter in a way that other Beatles accounts haven’t.

And although the book’s focus is technical in nature, the authors never neglect the human element for long, including lots of anecdotes and photos of the engineers, producers and the Beatles.

Gazing at all these pictures of beautiful, ancient, analog gear, I felt like a character out of Blade Runner looking at a pictures of real animals after they had gone extinct (nearly) and been replaced by clones. The equipment at Abbey Road and the other studios chronicled in the book has a magical feel to it that’s impossible to replicate in a software interface.

It belongs to an opulent, if ramshackle, analog recording age that will never return. With the music industry’s shrinking budgets and growing reliance on digital technology, who can afford teams of amp room technicians in white lab coats, or studio attendants in brown ones? For that matter, where do you even buy 2-inch tape anymore?

Despite the switch from analog to digital recording, there’s a clear link between the recording techniques pioneered by the Beatles’ engineers and those in use today in digital recording software. The book contains a great account of the Beatles’ discovery of automatic double tracking, or A.D.T., which is a perfect example of the sort of inventiveness regularly in effect at Abbey Road Studios.

John Lennon complained about having to record his vocal tracks twice in order to achieve the “double-tracked” effect, which makes a person sounds like he’s singing with himself. While thinking about the problem, Abbey Road engineer Ken Townsend took a nap after an all-day recording session, and woke up with a solution.

The engineers played Lennon’s vocal track at 15 inches per second, routing the signal to a second tape deck which recorded it at 30 ips. The other part of the trick is that the second deck had twice the space between the Record head and the Play head as the first, so Lennon’s voice arrived at the Play heads of both machines at approximately — but not exactly — the same time.

By mixing the signal from those machines onto a third, a new sort of double-track effect could be heard — different than the previous kind, because the vocal nuances on the first track were reproduced identically on the second track. Lennon and the rest of the Beatles loved the A.D.T. effect, and began using it on instruments as well as vocals. A good example is Lennon’s vocal on “Revolution 1,” which, incidentally, he recorded lying down in the middle of the studio, as a picture in this book shows.

The book also revealed (to me, anyway) the origin of the word “plug-in,” which is now used to refer to everything from Winamp add-ons to Photoshop effects. Equalization cartridges labeled “Classic” or “Pop” were literally plugged into the back of the mixing desk, which had little holes cut out of it so you could see which cartridge was plugged in.

These plug-ins were somewhat similar to the ones people use today, but engineers back then had a much different way of adding delay. They would route audio to a reverb plate or — more impressively — room-sized echo chambers with speakers and microphones in them, so that delay and reverb could be added by literally bouncing sound off of walls. Today’s desktop producers might have it easier, but they’ll never have it so good.

As tempting as it is to reminisce about the good old days of analog recording, most music people probably wouldn’t back a return to the sort of situation where it took mountains of money to produce music. As edifying and entertaining as it is to read about how the Beatles were recorded, you’d never want to have to do it yourself (unless, perhaps, you could easily afford the cost). But the Beatles’ engineers’ attention to detail, methodical approach and problem-solving mindset is in more demand now than ever, since digital technology has made everything so easy.

As one would expect, this book is sure to fascinate any Beatles obsessive or recording engineer. But I think anyone with even slight technical or Beatles-derived curiosity can flip open the book and be engrossed by what they find. The authors deserve ample credit for explaining the hard science behind the Beatles’ music in such an engaging way.

But, back to the Beatles going digital. Recording The Beatles shows The Beatles’ engineers using the most cutting-edge technology available to record and mix these records. If Yoko Ono and the remaining Beatles stay true to the inventive spirit of Abbey Road when they go digital, they’ll remaster the 13 core albums of the Beatles’ catalog directly from tape into a 24-bit 96-kHz format that would sound even better than lossless files made from today’s CDs. Like their move to 4-track, this would make a lot of sense in retrospect.

Historic Beatle Photos Trashed

Classic original photographs of The Beatles were lost forever after they were accidentally chucked in the trash. The iconic 1963 pictures — used on the cover of the Fab Four’s first official album Please Please Me — were stored in two boxes at an EMI base.

But although they were marked Not Rubbish — Do Not Remove, a cleaner allegedly admitted binning them.

Now EMI and Apple Corps bosses are suing the cleaner’s firm for £700,000, claiming they were negligent, failed to follow instructions, failed to take reasonable care and failed to properly train or supervise their employee.

The photos — showing John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr leaning over a staircase at EMI’s office in Manchester Square, London — were also used on the covers of The Beatles EP and the 1973 compilation Red Album.

They were among more than 450 transparencies and negatives kept at EMI’s Brook Green base in West London.

The seven Beatles snaps were taken by respected late photographer Angus McBean.

But the January 2001 gaffe saw them tossed in a waste compactor and CRUSHED. EMI and Apple Corps, owned and controlled by McCartney, Starr and the estates of Lennon and Harrison, issued a writ against cleaning firm Crystal Services on Thursday.

It says: “The Beatles transparencies were the only original material from the photography from this session and were historically important and valuable.” Crystal allegedly fired the female cleaner.

Apple Corps was founded in 1968 by The Beatles after they were advised to invest their capital in a business or lose out to the tax man.

This photo has only recently surfaced, the story go's that Paul Goresh the fan who took the last photo's of John as he was leaving the Dakota on Decemeber 8th had one photo that didnt come out,the flash may have failed, but recently with the advent of Photoshop programs someone had a play around with the photo and was able to bring out John's image, being a bit of an expert (he say's humbley) on John in 1980 i'm almost 100% certain that this photo actually is from the late afternoon of December the 8th.

The group's set list that night was: "Roll Over Beethoven," "From Me To You," "I Saw Her Standing There," "This Boy," "All My Loving," "I Wanna Be Your Man," "Please Please Me," "Till There Was You," "She Loves You," "I Want To Hold Your Hand," "Twist And Shout," and "Long Tall Sally."
